planning a summer outdoor portrait sessions
There are a few things to consider when planning your summer portrait session. The location, time of day, and temperature all play a factor in whether or not you’ll have a successful shoot.
Locations: rolling hills, water fronts, grassy fields. Plan your footwear and wardrobe accordingly! We live in a warm climate, so snakes, ticks, ants, and poison oak are possibilities in areas with water, tall grass, and trees. If this bothers you, let’s discuss alternative spots, or dress differently on the way to our shooting location.
Time of day: We schedule sessions in the morning, but the earlier the better. The sun will be strong by 7:30 am, so we will either be going for a bright look, or will need to select a spot with lots of tree coverage. Golden hour in the summer starts at 5:30 pm, so that means an evening session in the heat, or or early morning for cool temperatures.
What to wear: Something that blends into the bleached summery backdrop, like lightweight fabrics, cottons, linens, neutrals. This likely isn’t a time for formal wear. Save that for winter!
